There are a few things I would like to share about my hike before I hit the trail.
Why am I attempting this thru-hike? In November 2022, Melodie and I put a plan in motion to do a 3 day guided hike along the Appalachian Trail outside Hot Springs NC in early May 2023. Melodie’s niece Suzanne snd her husband Steve joined us. All equipment was included as well as an experienced guide to accompany us. This was definitely the way to go since we had not camped on trail. It was a great experience. From that time, I’ve had the urge to do a thru-hike and started planning and learning more about what it takes to accomplish a thru-hike of the AT.

There are many reasons someone chooses to go on a long hike. Many people use the trail as a form of therapy, to escape a busy life, and the “9 to 5” grind. It’s a time that can be used to examine relationships, career paths and past decisions.
My personal reason to attempt this hike is to physically and mentally challenge myself. I am sure that I will learn new things about myself due to the challenges I will face.
In my past post I wrote about what I would be bringing along on my hike. I didn’t mention in that post that I will also be bringing the Gospel of Jesus along with me. I plan to share the good news of Jesus to anyone who wants to listen. I am praying that God will put those who need to hear the message of salvation in my path.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation everyone who believes.
Lastly, I am dedicating my hike to my daughter Victoria, whom Melodie and I lost in November 2024. She would be proud of her Dad for attempting this hike. Love you always Baby Girl!
Look for my next post from the trail. Happy trails!
